BIO
London Heist is a ceramic and multidisciplinary artist from Indiana. They completed their residency with the BFA program at Indiana University in 2019. That same year, she was nominated by Indiana University for the Yale Norfolk Summer Residency as well as the Windgate Fellowship for graduating seniors. She was selected to be an Indiana University Fellow at Arrowmont School for Craft, and in 2022 attended the Hundredth Hill Urban Artists Residency.
Her work is heavily rooted in unconventional, discarded, and/or found materials and tries to explore ideas of forcing, stuffing, stretching, and fitting. Finding the limits within gravity, specific materials, and her own body’s abilities is a constant struggle in the studio. Her work navigates the boundary between the seen/unseen and the revealed/concealed.
WHAT I MAKE
Sculptures, ceramic pieces, functional ceramic pieces
INSPIRED BY
Art speaks to art. Why can't someone make a teapot about a song, or a sculpture based on a poem? I love when my work is in dialogue with other disciplines of artists.
